The problem with Electric Vehicle (EV) mandates is they are commands from government rather than results driven by market forces.
Fact: The majority of cars produced around the turn of the previous century were EVs and steam. No one banned them. No one banned them since then either.
Banning Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) cars and trucks need not happen in order for EVs to gain widespread acceptance if they are a) affordable, b) achieve the goals of the purchaser, and c) do a and b better than alternative products.
Competition. It's what made this a great country.
No one banned horses, canals, camels, rail travel, or Connestoga wagons, did they? No. No they didn't. It's called the open market.
Government has had its thumb on the scale with income tax credits, subsidies to EV manufacturers, free charging stations, bargain EV license plate registration fees, GAO and Pentagon EV fleet specification games, and forcing petro fuel costs higher by making oil harder to supply, and yet people STILL are not flocking to EVs.
It's clear why. They do not satisfy the market. Most people don't want them!
Now under the Biden (and Gore) administration, the feds, several blue states, and virtue-signaling city councils the Year 2035 keeps getting bandied about as the cut-off for sales of new gas- or diesel-ICE vehicles. Twelve years in which our masters and betters intend to forcibly take the option of what powers your vehicles away from you.
Golly. Where did they get the brass to dictate what you must buy for wheels?
Well golly, do you think the Lemming Decade of 2012 to 2022 might be a clue? I think so.
In 2012 the Supreme Court upheld Obamacare's mandate that all of us have to BUY insurance (or be given it if you are in a chosen class). Never before had the federal government mandated the American people purchase a commercial good, in this case health insurance. With the penalty for noncompliance being a tax penalty and forcible coverage.
In 2019 - and it really got rolling in 2020 - the CDC, FDA, Pentagon, and the entire bureaucracy foisted mandatory masking, surface cleaning, partitioning, small business closures, school closures, travel restrictions, and vaccines (or lose your job!) onto the Lemmings of America.
The American people caved, knuckled under, cowered, and took their orders. A terrible decade wherein the very nature of rugged individualism and self-sufficiency were discarded for the glamour of "security". Security at bayonet point. Security with impoverishment. Security with - as it turns out - dire misbegotten health consequences.
So EV mandates? Paaaahhhh! That'll be nothing, so they think. We'll see. Are Americans irretrievably cowed by "scientism" - the phony expert class at the microphone? Or are we to use actual "science" and actual market forces in a world that is real rather than the liberal world at war with reality?
