Please don't tell me you think it's "great" that the Biden administration has forced twelve large pharmaceutical companies to artificially lower their prices to Medicare-mandated prices!
Are you a socialist? If you think that's a good idea, then the answer is yes. You're a socialist.
Golly, if it's a good idea to set drug prices by government dictate, then why not on Homes? Cars? Pizza? Cafe Mochas? Cat litter?
Well, you say, drugs are important and medically necessary.
My answer is that a whole lot of things are medically necessary: Clothing, Housing, Telephones, Food, Water, the list is long of the things you need to stay alive. Set prices on all that too?
What do you think will happen when drug companies consider the risky investment in research and trials and FDA approval for the next possible wonder vaccine or therapeutic?
Here's what, now that Biden is dictating profit levels:
They will be MUCH more risk averse to develop new drugs.
They will decline to develop drugs which show promise if they cannot even cover the cost of development and manufacture. Maybe won't try to cure cancer if they cannot recoup their money and make a profit. You lose.
They will cease manufacturing drugs which are marginally profitable under the Biden price schedule.
They will off-shore jobs and manufacture, even more than in the past. Remember the shortage of non-US-made drugs during Covid? That's just a small taste of what will come, as they are forced by Washington to tighten their belts.
The results: Fewer drugs on the market. Fewer drugs being developed. Fewer jobs in an industry once dominated by America. Big black market in dangerous unregulated "bathtub gin" drugs. When you're sick and can't get your diabetes drugs any more, you'll pay ANYTHING to your local pusher!
For the feel-good thrill of temporary "low prices" Americans will lose their choices and even availability of the medicines they want and need.
Just imagine if Buttigieg's DOT told Goodyear and Firestone that their tires could only be sold for $50 each! Woohoo, you say? Oh, how clueless. The result would be the same as with drugs. They would quit making top quality tires, move production out of the country, and quit developing better and longer-lasting products.
Vladimir Lenin must be proud. He's taking over America after all, and if you're cheering it on, I hope you don't need the disappearing drugs which will inevitably result from the Biden/Lenin drug price plan.
