Paid sick time off.
That's what the Railroad Unions demand or they'll shut the country down.
And the bipartisan Congress vote this week, reflecting emotional fawning worthy of "The View", was to give the Unions seven paid "sick days" off.
As if we all get paid time off.
As if Congress has the moral right. The American people are being railroaded.
All "lifestyle mandates" and regulatory largesse which Congress and government regulators have gifted to employees over the years are wrong. All of them. Every one.
Until somebody steps up and reimburses America's self-employed, gig workers, and part-time hustlers with the same largesse, then no. A vigorous NO.
I - a self-employed - like millions of others running taco stands, doing home-based tech contracting, or hauling their backhoes for day work - don't get any PAID: baby leave, sick leave, vacation time, federal holidays, in-service days, employer pension or 401k, employer health care, employer day care, etc, etc, ad nauseum.
Yet we - the self-employed - have to shoulder the cost to pay for coddled employees (including government teachers and other employees union or otherwise). We see how they grift all these bennies via sappy stories or heart-rending boo-hooing backed up by strike threats.
But they don't pay. We pay! We pay by higher prices. We pay by higher taxes. We pay by having to compete against subsidized competition in our industries that uses a huge menu of consumer/taxpayer-paid benefits to lure workers. We pay for our competition ultimately!
That is the immorality of it.
Who is the government to put a thumb on the scale, larding up lifestyle help to union and large employers? While doing nothing to help entrepreneurs who have to pay full freight for all of their health care, their time off, their pensions?
How is that right?
If my family has a child, I get no paid leave. I get no paid vacation even after decades in business. I get no paid health days off, mental stress or heart transplant, doesn't matter how urgent or how expensive. Nobody reimburses me. Nobody jumps in behind my keyboard or does my work if I need to leave work for any reason. I simply lose business and lose income, that is my Federal "plan" - nothing. I remember Covid shut-downs. PPP? Hahahaha, what a joke.
Railroad workers already get 3 weeks off - PAID - after 3 years. Now Congress wants to give them seven more days for "sick days". So they get full pay for 11 months of work.
Gee whiz, wouldn't we all like that!
Where's the self-employed taxpayer-funded largesse?
We know where.
Besides Congress' and Progressives' contempt for the self-employed and the self-sufficient, we know where taxes come from. From the American people. Not the "government".
We pay, and we know how stupid it is for taxpayers to pay the government to pay us. Wasteful, inefficient, and stupid.
