"Weed" Be Jammin' in Ohio Soon
These distinguished-looking folks are the stars of an upcoming campaign from the newly formed cannabis trade group, Cannabis Media Council.
And they are here to tell you they have found weed use to be the "gateway" to their younger selves.
This campaign is counter to the old war-on-drugs definition.
The work called “I’m High Right Now” comes from the Cannabis Media Council. The CMC is a professional association of about 100 members that is aiming to be the “Got Milk” of the American weed business. The CMC's goal is to educate the public about the industry. And help brands like Maison Bloom, Cann, House of Saka, Headset, Kiva, Miss Grass, Garden Society, and others to break into mainstream media.
So Gen X'ers, remember the obligatory D.A.R.E. sessions you had to attend in school? Throw it out the window. The campaign is purposely zeroing in on boomers and Gen X as the demo “most affected by previous propaganda” about cannabis, according to Allison Disney, a CMC board member.
What kinds of campaigns and images are we going to see? One couple (who looks like they just left the 'Heff compound) states that pot didn’t burn them out—in fact, it revived their romantic life and left them “certainly feeling randier." (I am not one of the cool kids and on top of the cool lingo, so I had to look up what "randier" means - if you don't know, here you go).
Another ad shows a grandma now “hooked” because cannabis helps her maintain her daily exercise routine. And being a gardener (we assume she has a green thumb when it comes to growing her own weed) she can pursue her outdoor passion without pain.
And she doesn’t mind at all if anyone calls her a “dirtbag." (Really, Grandma?)
And you ask, "Why does this matter to me, MJ isn't legal in Ohio!"
Yet.
Ohio state lawmakers may try to pass legislation to legalize recreational marijuana in Ohio in order to head off an effort to have Ohioans vote on the issue in November. Tim Johnson, the founder of Cannabis Safety First, says his group is working to have House Republicans introduce legislation to allow Ohioans age 21 or older to buy, use or grow marijuana.
In my opinion and research, marijuana does have some great medicinal value. And it doesn't seem to be the "gateway drug" we were all told it was, due to its non-addictive properties.
